Important Information
Morning duties start at 8.45. Afternoon duties finish at 18.00 or when the days operations are concluded, whichever is earlier.
Changeover to afternoon duties is at 13.30 during BST and 12.30 during GMT.
We are currently in GMT and therefore changeover between AM and PM sessions for duties and bookings is at 12:30.
In 2012, BST will be active from Sunday 25th March to Saturday 28th October Inclusive.
For information regarding the preparation of the next set of rostered duties, please see the news items below. There is also a comprehensive FAQ about the club duty rosters available to logged in club members.
Please do NOT rely on the email reminders issued by this website. There are many reasons why you might not receive them. Generating the reminders currently includes a manual process which occasionally may not be possible. It is also possible that the reminders might get spam trapped or stuck in an email queue somewhere. Please check the roster lists on this site occasionally and keep track of your duties. The reminders should be considered a backup.
Please....
...If you book a glider, please arrive on time, help unpack and/or repack the hangar as appropriate, and help at the launch point when you are not flying - it's part of the deal!...
...Do record your duty swaps on the website...
...Do try to arrange your duty swaps in plenty of time...
...Do phone around if an email to the lists has not found a suitable duty swap...
...Do set your availability options with consideration for the other members who also perform your role...
News....
See the December 17th article below. I expect to close availability and begin work on the summer rosters around Thursday 9th February.
Steve.
I have uploaded a new version of the section of the club website which handles the Two seater/MG/Trial flight bookings and the club duty rosters.
The visible features of the new version of the site are that for rosters, the site can handle rosters that have some roles only partly issued. All issued duties can now be viewed and swapped on line as soon as they are issued. Additionally, the weekday winch drivers have a facility similar to the weekday tug pilots for viewing and swapping duties (the current duties will be populated shortly).
Behind the scenes there are many changes tidying up the program code and database, and removing the remnants of facilities that we no longer use. Additionally the programming that sends duty emails has been entirely re-written. The emails will look the same but the code that sends them is much more robust.
A lot has changed or been touched in this update. I've done as much testing as was practical, but some issues are very possible this time. Please report any issues to me.
One known issue is that the width of the drop down menus has been slightly increased. If some menu items wrap on your PC, try refreshing your page (Control-F5 for IE, or Control-R for Firefox).
Steve
The availability page is now open for the summer season rosters (covering March 30th through to end of September). It remain accessible until approximately Wednesday 8th February (and just possibly a day or two longer). I expect to issue the new duties around 23rd Feb.
Note that as usual bank holidays are included in the roster, and this time around we again have an extra Bank Holiday - Unusually a Tuesday (6th June) for the Queens Diamond Jubilee. The availability page just about copes with this extra day!
As usual, I ask that you only block out dates that you are actually unable to attend the airfield, and only to block afternoon duties if you have other commitments outside of gliding, that prevent you from attending the airfield on that afternoon. Blocking the whole of either Saturdays or Sunday does not normally cause a big issue, as long as the other day is left fully available.
Please do NOT use the availability options to "preselect" your duties by only allowing a handful of days. I'll usually totally ignore such availability patterns unless you have contacted me first with a good reason.
Certain roles have restrictions placed by their duty chiefs (LMs, no blocking of PM duties, Instructors - No per day availability). Please respect those instructions.
Members attending university, and who are only available either in or outside of term time can have a duty load set to represent the time they are in the Cambridge area. To qualify for this you should set your availability as normal including the periods that you not around AND email the rosters manger with the actual dates that you are away (which may be less than the unavailability you've set).
For members joining the rosters for the first time. There is a frequently asked questions page visible once logged on, that explains what it is all about and how it all works.
Please can you ensure that your contact details are kept up to date on the website, and if you hold a rostered role, we ask that you allow your contact details to be viewed by other members (this is not mandatory, but is highly encouraged, as the roster arrangements rely on members being able to find swaps where duties do not suit.)
Finally, thanks for your continued support.
Steve.
Last night there were some changes to the configuration of the web server that the club website runs on.
Whilst the programming behind the booking and rostering systems is unchanged, the environment in which it runs has changed. Please report any issues with the the booking and rostering systems to me.
Additionally, the way that the web server sends reminder emails had had to change. Please keep an eye out for duty reminders and swap emails, in case they get spam trapped. I have inspected the new arrangements an believe the risk of that to be minimal (unless you provider is overly stringent with their spam blocking). It's worth white-listing email from glide.co.uk if you are able.
Finally, logging on to the booking or rostering systems now requires that your browser (at least temporarily) accepts cookies from glide.co.uk. The cookies are used only to maintain your login throughout your current visit and for no other purpose.
Steve.
Saturday 29th October was the last day of British summer time. The changeover between Morning and Afternoon duty shifts (and booking slots) is now 12:30.
Steve.
The Winter rosters are now on-line, these can be viewed or swapped as normal.
As usual if any duties do not suit, please use the normal swap arrangements to arrange cover for the duties that you are unable to attend to, and record the swap or change on the website. When arranging swaps, remember that members are more likely to respond to swap requests if you contact them directly (telephone). The email lists are a good starting point for swaps, but do not always yield a result.
Please can you ensure that your contact details are kept up to date on the website, and if you hold a rostered role, we ask that you allow your contact details to be viewed by other members (this is not mandatory, but is highly encouraged, as the roster arrangements rely on members being able to find swaps where duties do not suit.)
The Summer 2012 roster will be prepared in mid February. The availability page be open form early January for those dates).
Finally, thanks for your continued support.
Steve.
The BI roster lists have been altered to list BI duties in half day sessions. Duties will still be allocated as full day (i.e. when the rosters are prepared both half days will be allocated to the same BI). You may now swap or transfer half a day if you please.
Please note that in order to swap or transfer a whole day, you will need to record it by registering two transactions, one for each half of the day.

This update fixes some bugs and adds further features to the trial flight booking software. Most changes are only visible to administrators.
Please report any issues to me.
Steve.
This update primarily provides some layout fixes to mittigate some issues with the hardware acceleration feature in Firefox 4. It also fixes some bugs in the trial flight booking software.
Please report any issues to me.
The Firefox 4 issue relates to the sizing of text and subsequent distortion of some of the input forms. This is due to inconsistent effects of a new hardware acceleration feature which FF4 has enabled by default. I have seen the fonts used rendered slightly too tall and too narrow, this results in some forms running being slightly stretched vertically.
The problems are purely cosmetic and can be worked around by disabling the "Use hardware acceleration where available" setting on the General tab of the Advanced section of the Firefox options. You will need to restart Firefox after altering that setting.
Steve.
This update adds a new page which lists all of your duties. This page combines your outstanding duties on the main rosters, the two seat weekday instruction and the weekday tug roster.
In addition, Instructors, BIs and Launch Marshals are able to view details of the operations on their upcoming duty days by following links provided on the new page. This facility displays the operations report for the day and includes details of the bookings made so far, and the the glider allocation. Reports are only available in the five days preceding the duty, and you must hold one of the above roles on the day.
The new page can be found as "Your Duties" on the "Your Profile" menu. The previous Instructors access to the Operations report by has been superseded by the links on this new page.
Please report any issues to me.
Steve.
