'Discover Gliding' Courses - 2009

Have you always dreamed of learning to fly but never thought you could find the time or afford it?

Then join one of our evening classes at the Cambridge Gliding Centre, Gransden Lodge Airfield, Longstowe, suited to both newcomers and improvers. You will quickly discover that gliding is both fun and an affordable way of learning to fly.

This could be you!

Courses last one evening per week for four weeks, including ground school on the first evening, and three flying evenings. Two additional afternoon flying sessions will be offered to take advantage of afternoon flying conditions, bookable to suit individual diaries. A pilot's log book and a detailed training syllabus are also included in the package.

Training is carried out in the Cambridge Gliding Centre's modern, rugged, 2-seater, dual-control, high-performance gliders under the supervision of experienced British Gliding Association (BGA) qualified instructors. Training follows the BGA's syllabus with the emphasis on flying.

COURSE DATES

These evening courses will take place on Monday evenings. We will start flying at 6pm - the earlier you arrive the more flights you will get! - and finish just after dusk (about 9pm).

In case of poor weather, the evening will go ahead with ground school lectures on topics such as principles of flight, meteorology, air law, and soaring.

Course 1 - Mondays
17 May, 24 May, 31 May, 7 June

Course 2 - Mondays
19 June, 26 June, 2 August, 9 August

You can choose dates for your two afternoon sessions from a list of dates supplied on your first evening. All course members will be actively involved in running the flying operation and flying will continue until dusk. Depending on the weather, students can expect to make up to three flights per evening.

COURSE COSTS

The course costs £105 plus flying charges at the same rate as full club members (payable in advance). A typical winch launched training flight costs £12 - £14 per flight at current rates, depending upon how long you are in the air.

If you are enjoying your flying, once your course has finished, the basic cost of the evening class (£105) will be credited against your first year's full membership. In effect, if you become as full member of the club, the course will have cost you nothing other than your normal flying costs.
