Aerotow launch

If you have never seen a modern glider, or have only had a brief trial flight in one, you are probably unaware of the potential of these aircraft. Gliders are capable of cross-country flights of considerable distances and can cruise at speeds in excess of 100 knots.

The current UK distance record is over 1000 km, flights of 500 km are frequently made from Gransden Lodge, 600 km is not unknown and several of our members have made flights exceeding 750 km. The record height achieved from Gransden Lodge is in excess of 12 500 feet.

To reach these levels of achievement takes time, dedication, and practice. Cambridge Gliding Centre offers a comprehensive set of courses to suit you, from your very first flight to your first solo, your first cross-country flight and beyond. Gransden Lodge is one of the largest gliding sites in the UK and ideal for easy, safe and efficient training. All our courses are run by British Gliding Association (BGA) rated instructors.

Introductory course

The package includes a safety briefing, three aerotows to 2 000 feet and initial instruction.

Flexible training courses

Available Monday to Friday most weeks during our summer season from April to September. You can book a modern training glider and qualified Instructor (usually sharing with maximum one other trainee) for as little as half a day or as much as a week or two.
