Membership costs

Valid for Membership Year 2007 - 2008

Club membership year runs from 1st October to 30th September. However, on first joining, a member joins for a full twelve months. At the end of his/her 12 months, the member renews until the subsequent 30th September, paying the appropriate proportion of the annual subscription rate. Thereafter membership is renewed each 1st October for a year.

The Club has a financing arrangement with a third party provider that allows the subscription payment to be spread over 12 equal monthly payments. (Details from the office). This is particularly useful as the member may finance an initial credit to his/her flying account as well.

Full Flying membership

£470.00 per year.

Solo spouse membership

Spouses and children under 18 of full flying members may join the club at no charge until they go solo. From the renewal date following first solo they will be charged the appropriate subscription rate.

£235 per year for the spouse, or partner, of a full flying member.

Solo Spouse membership is not available to those members having access to more than one private glider between them.

Family membership

The spouse, or partner, and any children (aged under 18) of a full flying member pay no subscription but must enrol separately. For the spouse or partner, this class of membership will continue until the renewal date following their going solo, whereupon they become eligible for solo spouse membership (see above).

Children become liable for the young person's rate at the renewal date following their 18th birthday.

Young person's membership

This is available to members under 21 years of age or in full time education at 1st October 2007. Certain flying charges are reduced for these members.

eligible for solo spouse membership (see above)

£90 per year

Cadet membership

The club offers a limited number of cadet memberships each year to selected suitable applicants, normally between the ages of 15 and 18 (the minimum age at which you can fly solo in the UK is 16). There are very reduced flying charges to make flying affordable. In return the Club looks for an appropriate level of commitment from the successful applicants at the launch point and during competitions.

£65 per year

Associate membership

This is effectively a social membership to retain contact with the Club through receipt of newsletters and have access to Gransden Lodge Airfield. If associate members wish to fly they must pay the current temporary full flying membership rate.

£7.50 per year

'All in' training package

As a member you can pay, at the start of your training, for all the flying you will need to go solo (but limited to flying within 12 months of electing for the scheme) for £1005.00.  This price is inclusive of an unlimited number of winch launches, in that period, and:

  • 6 aerotows to 2500 ft.
  • Up to 45 minutes duration on any one flight. On longer flights, the excess time will be charged at Club rates.

You may choose this scheme at any time up to, and including, your tenth flight, the package charge being reduced by the flying charges you have already paid.
