17th April 2010 is 75 years to the day
since the inaugural flight of Cambridge University Gliding Club (at first just
called Cambridge Gliding Club) from Caxton Gibbet by Oliver Fitzwilliams
(Trinity) in the Nacelled Zögling. The foundation of the Cambridge Gliding Club
by, and for members of the University, had been approved by the Proctors on 12
February 1935.
Cambridge University Gliding Club(CUGC) and Cambridge
Gliding Club(CGC) are holding a joint, formal, dinner in the Hall of
Jesus College Cambridge on Saturday 17th April 2010 to celebrate this milestone
event. There will be a reception in Upper Hall from 1900 hrs until 1945 hrs.
Tickets will cost £50 per head, or £45 per head for current members of either
CUGC or CGC. The ticket(s) can be booked here online and can be either sent to
you or held for collection from the CGC office or at the dinner.
Black tie or lounge suits.
To encourage as many past members as possible to visit the Club and sample its
current facilities, any past member of either Club purchasing a full price
ticket will be entitled to a complimentary winch launch from Gransden Lodge on
either Saturday 17th or Sunday 18th April.
This will include up to 15 minutes of flying time; thereafter it will be charged
at CGC club rates ruling at the time. Flights will be bookable in advance through the Office on a
"first come, first served basis" and on site on either day.
